Dutty Ranks & Truth – Weave/All For You + TRUTH Mixtape

Some unusually hefty vibes today. A collabo between Dutty Ranks and New Zealand’s chief creative export, Truth. This is not the first time the New Zealand based producers have come together though, previously bringing us Chicago and Language of Music, and with every subsequent release gaining further momentum.

Both tracks make use of some incredibly bulky basslines. “Weave” is somewhere of a mix between a dub / deep bass track, building off a sustained brass instrument, dub vocal, and pumping percs. “All For You” is an even jazzier piece, bolstering its sound with smooth vocals, flutes, and an array of crisp percussion instruments with certainly catchy patterns. Together, each make for a smooth ride, containing influences from all participating producers, all in all properly polished form.

Dutty Ranks has a pretty extensive catalog, with over two dozen releases, and as far as we have listened, each skillfully crafted. He is currently backed by three labels: War, Argon and Abyss, with releases on each. His music is spread over a darker pallet, as far as style is concerned; drawing inspiration from dub, garage, and even some jazzy stuff making for an intensely good mixture (believe it or not). Strongly recommend reviewing his previous releases, this stuff is tasty. Enjoy.
