It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Brit-Awards winner Ellie Goulding, but now sheās back, with a new single, an upcoming album, and a much-changed, revolutionized sound.
Since the release of her debut album Lights in 2010, her name has grown to become a household one. Now with her new album Halcyon due out this October, Ellieās giving us a first taste of her new sound, with far less pop and acoustic, and much more electronics and vocal trickery. The first sounds we hear are those of Ellieās trademark acoustic guitar, but this soon gives way to swells and sways of her enhanced voice, lolling in heavenly waves to lead into the verse. Slowly but surely, we hear the sounds of Electronica growing; the synths begin, the drums kick in, the vocals impress endlessly with their sharp tricks and constant surprises. And then ā THUD! We enter a whole new branch of Ellie Gouldingās music, deep, dark, and absolutely divine.
Featuring artist Tinie Tempah, however, is much less impressive, rapping about his gastrointestinal problems, āspitting versesā about vomit and cleavage, and taking a lot of Gaviscon. Itās safe to say thereās no message in his words, and certainly no joy to be had listening to them. But what is certain is that, omitting Tinie Tempah, “Hanging On” is an extremely fresh, exciting song in the Electronic genre, and holds great promise in Ellieās upcoming album. Needless to say, Goulding is back on the scene with an impressive, undeniable new style, new look and new talent. October canāt come soon enough.
