Jetpack Jones’ (Indie/Hip Hop artist from Lakewood, Ca) first and title track “Afterburners“, off of his full length mixtape of the same name, has been available for download since before summer. The offical video, however was released but a few days ago.
Directed by Joshua Russell, the video is set in what appears to be Southern California skate park. With our Jetpack protaganist and others skateboarding, you can see throughout, the conviction with which he believe he speaks. In particular, in what he says at near the end, where he simply states, “I just want to be great“. Apparently his sole goal, Jetpack isn’t one to just dream of his success, he wants to live it; through samples, he emphasizes “he wants it bad,” that is he making moves right now. In one verse, his words are confident and positive as he spits, “life’s a marathon, so I’m-a walk up out it. Never walk around it, take it head on.”
While he’s not saying anything particular provoking or original, with a decent beat from producer Stan the Beatsmith (an unknown beatmarker from Cambridge, MA, of all places), the track gets along.
His rhythmic flow is smooth and pleasant to listen to. It’s laid back feel and skate-savy video couple well together. His full-length mixtape is available from Datpiff. #jetpackmovement in WA!
