Wick-it the Instigator gave the world less than 24 hours to soak up Kanye West’s newest anthem, “Clique,” before dropping off his own re-work. Among other things, the Nashville-based DJ/producer cut out Big Sean’s verse and added some grimy sirens to the chorus. A lot of what makes the Hit-Boy produced original so appealing is in tact. Wick-it’s merely here to spice things up a bit, which doesn’t always seem possible with a Kanye West joint.
Wick-it has a trove of hard-hitting beats stashed over in his SoundCloud, including The Weathermaker, which showcases a whole other side to the beat maker. While generally falling somewhere between hip-hop and electronic music, his records tend to have mass crossover appeal and are guaranteed to get the party started.
Wick-it says that “despite the style or approach with each individual track, serious crowd rocking fun is the goal.” I’d say he’s meeting that goal.
