Since The XX released “Angels“, the first single of their long-awaited album, many artists rushed to remix it. DrDr have, and are among the few to do so properly; their version is outstanding.
It starts beautifully with DrDr’s characteristic percussion work which gradually gains in intensity. The vocals completely equal the emotion charge of the original until a fabulous drop when the instrumental stops and the vocals drop an octave, bringing the track deeper. From there starts a beautiful interweaving of chopped up vocals paired with the percussion, but it all remains minimal to stay faithful to the spirit of the original song.
